A large US pension fund periodically measures shareholder and creditor rights in the developing world. Oxford Business Partners were retained to research the legal codes of 27 emerging market nations in Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia. We completed an analysis of company, bankruptcy and reorganisation law. Our work combined desktop research and interviews with lawyers in each of these countries to establish a database that assesses the protection given to minority shareholders.
